For the past 18 months, Ward Bros. Construction Ltd. was contracted to carry out a significant renovation of the upper and lower hall section (1954 vintage) for McKillop United Church in Lethbridge, AB.  The project involved a large kitchen expansion and redesign to meet commercial-level usage, new accessible washrooms, installation of a full-service elevator, creation of new storage and meeting space, acoustic sound treatment between floors, and several major infrastructure improvements related to the roof and the heating system.  The total cost for the architectural design and construction was approximately 1.6 million dollars. 

Ward Bros. worked collaboratively with the architect throughout the renovation to provide initial design advice, and then acted as the construction manager on site.  Any renovation of an older building is often full of unforeseen issues, but I can say without reservation that Ward Bros. and its staff were exceptional to work with, responding quickly and competently to the relatively few problems we encountered.  In addition, construction had to accommodate the needs of a preschool which continued to operate throughout the project, as well as church services on the weekend and unplanned events such as funerals.  Without exception, the construction staff simply adjusted as needed, and with no complaint. As the client, if we had any questions they were dealt with immediately, and the follow-up for any deficiencies with subtrades was handled efficiently.  McKillop’s relationship with the on-site project manager and construction supervisor was very positive, and we were kept updated on construction progress and on-going costs on a regular basis.  Equally important, we always felt our input was needed and valued, and that the Ward Bros. staff held a real respect for McKillop United Church as a client. 

Now that the project has reached its completion, we are extremely pleased with the result, due in no small part to the professionalism and competency of Ward Bros. Construction Ltd.   I would have no reservation in recommending them highly to anyone taking on a similar project.
